122 Years With the Ste. Genevieve Herald; STE GENEVIEVE HERALD, Ste. Genevieve, MO

March 5, 2003
100 Years Ago - 1903
Since Thursday workmen have been busy putting up the cable which is to take the place of the many wires of the telephone line. It will do away with entangling alliances and disordered or interrupted communication.

After the 21st of June, 1903, any one convicted of stealing any domestic fowl in the night time will be guilty of a felony punishable by imprisonment in the pen. The law was passed by the last legislature. So bouillon parties will have to steal their chickens in the daytime.

75 Years Ago - 1928
Acting in conjunction with the members of the special road district, the city council is making an investigation to ascertain the cost of laying a concrete covering on the South Gabouri Creek bed at the intersection of South Main Street near the Missouri-Illinois railroad trestle. We are told that pipes will be laid first to accommodate the water at low stage and concrete will be spread on top of the pipes. This will be a much-needed improvement as it will at all times insure safe and more pleasant crossing of this creek. It is hoped that the two boards may see their way clear to have the work done.
