This index was copied myself from the images, and to the best of my ability.
The 1840 census only contains names of the heads of household, but it marks the number of other family members of various ages,
etc. I am only listing the names of the heads. Everyone will be listed underneath their township and page number and next to the appropriate images.
Page such and such A contains the names and first part of the counting of the household, page B is a continuation of the counting, & does
not contain names.
See the bottom of this page for user submitted notes on this transcription.
Names will be listed as was originally done on the census.
Enumerator: John S. Barrett (100%)
Ste. Genevieve Township
Followed by totals of townships and county and a sworn
statement by the ennumerator, John S. Barrett, October 1840. Signed by
Justice of the Peace Benjamin H. Knox.
end.
Notes:
Anderson Faukner, p81a/81b: Anderson Faukner should most
likely be Anderson Forkner who married Rutha Counts. I agree the census spells
it Faukner, however I think that is a spelling error from the census taker and
perhaps both names could be listed on the site? Rutha Counts marries & is
listed as Rutha Forkner under the 1850 Ste. Genevieve Co, MO census - Cindy

David fen (yes, it really says that),
p79a/79b: I have seen that as David Fox on another site. I looked at the
image and can't be sure myself. This particular name interests me because I
descend from a David Fox who is in Madison County in 1850 and it is possible he
was in Ste.Genevieve in 1840. - Marie Lawrence

Anton/Michael Joker or Yoker, p74a/74b: I think the Antoine Joker/Yoker is actually Franz Anton Jokerst and the same would be true for Michael Joker/Yoker. I am not sure if Michael is a brother or a son. - Mary F. Richter [clr.mfr at juno dot com]
Joseph Sevant, p74a/74b: The Joseph Sewant listed is most likely Josef Schwendt who married Franz Anton's daughter Magdalena Anna and came to this country with the Jokerst family and their daughter, Kunigunda in 1830 [In the 1900 Census Kunigunda stated she was born in Mar 1827, immigrated in 1830 and had been in the U S 70 years] She married Joseph Jokerst around 1846 - Mary F.
