Ste. Genevieve Herald, Nov. 12, 1898

DIED

At her home in River aux Vases Thursday, Nov. 3, at 6 o'clock p.m., with liver trouble, Mrs. Agatha Kiefer, nee Kreitler, wife of Bartholomew Kiefer, aged 66 years, 9 months. The funeral took place in the Catholic cemetery at River aux Vases at 10 o'clock a.m. Saturday, Rev. Father A. H. Schaefer officiating, and a large concourse of mourners attending.

Mrs. Kiefer was a sister of Daniel Kreitler and was born in Baden, Germany, early in the year 1832. In 1846 she came to this country and about three years later was married to Bartholomew Kiefer, to whom she bore eight children, seven of whom are still living, to mourn, with their father, the loss of a devoted parent. She also leaves twenty-two grand-children.

One by one we cross the river,
One by one we're ferried o'er;
One by one, with sins forgiven,
May we stand upon the shore,
Waiting till the angel boatman
Takes the helm and guides us o'er,
And the white-robed angel boatman,
Lands us on the shining shore.
