During the war my mother (who lived in leadwood) used to watch
the big trucks (probably duece and a halfs) open air ..loaded with
POWs ..on their way to Wiengarten she said they looked hollowed eyed, frightened, and utterly defeated. She thought most of them were
italians but didnt know for sure.
She said that bringing them through the country side like that
was a shock..that the enemy were people too..in fact most looked
more like boys than men.
just an old memory..
