Poggemoeller/Miller Family - 2007/04/14 19:18
I am looking for help with the Poggemoeller/Miller Family. I am now totally confused by information that I have. It appears the surname of Poggemoeller was not set in stone. Other surnames of Miller and Muller seemed to be used as often as Poggemoeller. Chritian's Poggemoeller obit reads:
Ste. Genevieve Herald, Dec. 29, 1917 DIED At his home near Kinsey on Saturday; December 15th, 1917, Christian Miller, at the age of 85 years, 7 months and 4 days. The deceased was a native of Germany and came to America at the age of 14 years. He had lived for 48 years upon the farm where he died. He was married to Charlotte Long, who preceeded him in death five years ago. To this union were born 21 children, eleven of whom are living, three sons and eight daughters: William Miller of Granite City, Ill., Frank and Harry of Plattin, Kate (Mrs. Brown Bequette), Josie (Mrs. Sol Bequette), Carrie (Mrs. Anton Sewald), Amelia (Mrs. Henry Sewald), Lulu (Mrs. Jos. Sewald), Lillian (Mrs. Andrew Sickman), Rosie (Mrs. John Smith), and Minnie Miller. Funeral services were held at the home and the remains were laid to rest in the little famly cemetery on the farm. He was loved and respected by all who knew him, and during the last year of his illness loving hands did all that could be done to lessen his sufferings, and he passed away peacefully to the place where there is no more sickness and suffering. May his soul rest in peace.
It does appear that the surname of Poggemoeller was dropped around 1900 and Miller used more often. However on death certificates for Christian's wife Charlotte, and daughters Amelia & Minnie, and the WWI Draft Cards for son's Harry & Frank the surname Poggemoeller can still be found. However Charles Poggemoeller has Miller on his Death Certificate.
If anyone can help please let me know.
