Sign on building HERZOG - ROTH - 2006/08/15 10:11 A kind cousin from Farmingtown was able to location the building that has the painted names on it in Ste. Genevieve for me. "HERZOG & ROTH" on the top of the building right side is a brick building on the corner of second and Washington. further down the building, same side, "Old Virginia" and further down "Better Than"

There is a white concrete garage just East of it with the numbers 199.

My quetion is, who were Herzog & Roth, and what kind of establishment was it and what time frame were they in business. Was the business there on that location, or was it just an advertisement for another business located somewhere else.

I was on vacation in Ste. Gen. in 2004 and saw this building, but didn't have time to investigate further..........Any help would be appreciated.....

Re:Sign on building HERZOG - ROTH - 2006/08/18 09:54 I have a picture of the building. It is on Washington and second street. My question: what kind of business was it and who were Herzog & Roth? What time frame did they own the business? There were so many Herzog's and Roth's I wish to know their first names so I can have someone research the business. Thanks for any help you may give.

Re:Sign on building HERZOG - ROTH - 2006/08/25 21:38 Oh I feel dumb, I totally missed you giving the location in the first post. Okay... I drove by there the other day and I did not see it. I think I am blind. Is that the older building that looks like it's in bad need of work and it has two stories and like the top part juts out farther than the first story and has columns then supporting it? I can't picture a white garage either. Oh man, I'm horrible, you'd think I lived a thousand miles away instead of a couple miles from there. I'll have to try and look again soon.

Unfortunately, at this time I have no info on it or who they were...

Re:Sign on building HERZOG - ROTH - 2006/09/22 17:08 I don't know if this is the same building BUT last night I was getting a carry out from the Brick House and they had a poster sized newspaper-like ad on the wall that had a small section about a Herzog store. It said "Henry Herzog, dealer of Boots, Shoes and Leather. It listed the business on Market Street across from the Court House. If I can figure out how to do it, I'll upload the photo that I took of the ad with my cell phone. Valerie, if you can help me with the upload information, I'd appreciate it.

Re:Sign on building HERZOG - ROTH - 2006/09/22 21:25 Would be very interested in the Herzog store ad. However, that is not the same building.... But must be related to me somehow.

Thanks so much for the thought. Hope the picture comes out.

Re:Sign on building HERZOG - ROTH - 2006/09/24 19:29 Thanks so much for posting the ad of Herzog Boots & Shoes.
I will try to find which Herzog this one was...Do not see a date on the ad. Do you know about when it was?

Re:Sign on building HERZOG - ROTH - 2006/09/25 10:10 No, the picture in the restaurant is large, like a newspaper spread with many business names. It didn't have a date on it. If I get back down there I'll check it out to see if it has a date or will ask someone there.

Re:Sign on building HERZOG - ROTH - 2007/04/14 17:44 The building is a blacksmith and wagon makers shop. It was owned (built?) by Herzog and Roth. It was later owned by my husband's family the Glaser's. I have pictures that I can send to you that plainly show the names on the front of the building that can be seen now that the porch ceiling has been removed.
