Thomas Right Holloman

Thomas Right Holloman was the fourth son of Mary Barrett and Edmund Holloman.  He was born in 1818 near Avon, MO.  It is very likely that his devoutly religious mother Mary named him for the stirring Rev. Thomas Wright who was the itinerant preacher assigned in 1817 and 1818 to her Methodist-Episcopal community, designated at that time as the “Saline District” by their Methodist Episcopal conference.   Young Tom grew up to be quite handsome, charming and a bit on the wild side.  Tom’s parents sent him to school at Farmington, MO, in St. Francois Co. and he apparently impressed his schoolmates with his flamboyantRead More →

Mary Ann Holloman

Mary Ann Holloman, born about 1820 in Ste. Genevieve Co. MO, was the second daughter of Mary Barrett and Edmund Holloman.  She probably enjoyed a happy and carefree childhood until her youngest sibling Edmund Wesley (E. W.) Holloman was born when she was about five.  By the time she was six, her mother would have expected her to care for and entertain her baby brother so that her mother and older sister Elizabeth could get all of the cooking, washing, spinning, weaving and sewing done for their busy household.  When her brother Allen’s daughter Rachel was born a few years later and his wife died,Read More →

Edmund Wesley Holloman

Edmund Wesley Holloman, youngest child of Mary Barrett and EdmundHolloman, was born in 1825 on his parents’ homestead near Avon in Ste. Genevieve Co. MO.  By 1832 his family had moved to a new homestead near Coffman, MO.  As E. W. grew up, he received a fairly good education, learning to read and write.  He was most likely sent to school at Farmington, MO, in an adjacent county just as his brother Thomas had been.  E. W.’s hand writing was so good that when he was about twenty he took a job working as a clerk in the Ste. Genevieve County Records department, and thusRead More →

He traveled from the New York port alone across country to Ste. Genevieve County, Missouri. I have found no records so far of his travels across the country to Ste. Genevieve. Almost nothing is known of his life before he arrived at the New York port from England and further research needs to be done. He is first seen in Ste. Genevieve County Missouri in the 1840Read More →

William Holmes, Mary Blackwell Family History

compiled by Lynn Fusinato – 2008  William HOLMES was born in Maryland on 01-23-1777 during the turbulence of the Revolutionary War.  After the war, he was raised somewhere in Pennsylvania.   Almost nothing is known of his life before his mid-twenties. Even the given names of his parents, step-parent and half-siblings are unknown (although, reportedly, one of his half-sisters married a Chenoweth and another married a Dixon).   Some time around 1800, William decided to leave his clan of half-siblings in Pennsylvania and head west to seek his fortune in what is now the state of Missouri.  He first obtained land in the area of Missouri thatRead More →

Missouri on Sept 20, 1846.  John’s parents were listed as Duncan and Janet McFarland, both natives of Scotland.  Reportedly,  Duncan McFarland had immigrated to America with an older brother who joined General Wolf’s Army as a grenadier (probably in the 1750’s) and was thought to have died in 1759Read More →

Jesse Blackwell, Elizabeth Smith Family History

compiled by LynnFusinato 2008 Jesse Blackwell of Goochland Co. VA married young Elizabeth “Betty” Smith, daughter of John and Elizabeth Smith, in early 1783.  Betty’s parents signed the marriage bond on Feb 25, 1783, in Chesterfield Co. VA giving permission for their daughter to marry, indicating that Betty was under 21 years old at that time.  The newlyweds setuphousekeeping in VA and produced six children between 1784 and 1798. Apparently, there was another Jesse Blackwell living in Goochland Co. VA around the same time who had married a Mary Crow about 1776.  Both Jesse Blackwell families moved to Tennessee in the early 1800s.  Unfortunately, overRead More →

Margaret Brown and Thomas Madden Family History

Compiled by Lynn Fusinato – 2008 Thomas Madden reportedly was an Irishman who migrated to the American Colony of Maryland before the American Revolution.  He is thought to have been born around 1761 but census data indicates that he may have been born as early as the 1740s.  According to some of his McClanahan-McGready descendents, he ended up in America because his family lost their land in Ireland.  It is not known whether he came to America with his parents when still a small child or by himself as a young man before 1780.  Most of his descendents claim he was a Revolutionary War veteranRead More →
