RUN OVER BY FREIGHT TRAIN AND KILLED.
William Hunt, an Aged Farmer, Meets With Death Under the Wheels at Sprott.

Mr. William Hunt, an old and respected citizen who lived near Sprott, a
station on the Illinois Southern railroad, was run over by a freight
train at that place last Tuesday morning and instantly killed. He had
gone to the station with some eggs to ship to Flat River, and as the
freight train from Ste. Genevieve rolled in, he attempted to cross the
track. The engine struck him and the train passed over him severing one
of his legs and crushing his body.

Mr. Hunt was a brother of Mrs. Mary Burks of this place and of Mr. L.
T. Hunt. He was a widower, about 73 years of age, and leaves three
sons. Mr. Hunt was born in North Carolina and came to Missouri with his
parents when he was about eight years old. He was a man of upright
character
and enjoyed the good will and respect of all who knew him. The funeral took place Wednesday morning at the family cemetery.
